The purpose of validating data is to ensure that the data used within the system is clean, useful and correct. Data that does not conform to the set-up or business rules will have a negative impact on the execution of the business process. This function can be used to do data validation on selected areas and all the data created for the selected areas, in other word a specific record cannot be validated with this function.

The following areas have data validation processes available to check for correctness and meaningfulness:

  • Base data set-up
  • Statuses
  • Object structure
  • Specific structure
  • Event object
  • Forecast parameter

Note

The following is an example of how the validation of data works on the Object structure validation: The validation checks that are applicable to an object structure are the following - If the structure type is “Rotable” then object ageing must exist and a related object must be specified. In the case where a related object has been specified and the position is not the top of the structure a check will be done to determine if the object code and structure code are being linked is also linked at a higher level in the same structure. This check for loops will be done recursively for each higher level in the specific structure. Ensure that the warehouse set-up for an organisation type object is correct. The following rules apply:

  • A warehouse must be specified for an organisation type object.
  • Warranty codes for a supplier type warehouse and an execution type warehouse must differ.
  • Warranty codes for a quarantine type warehouse and an execution type warehouse must differ.
