Characteristics are user definable elements used to add more detail to the generic and specific instances of any specific object managed with 360° Strategic Asset Management. This form is used to define the characteristics for specific object. Specific characteristics will be allocated to a specific item/object. This form is therefore used to allocate specific characteristics to an object type.

Note

Characteristics are defined for object types such as Vehicles, Mines, Plants, Attachments, etc. and then used to give more definition to a specific instance of the object type. For example: Location is an object type, and GPS (Global Position System Coordinates) can be defined as a characteristic, or an object type is a “human” and you might want to capture the “height” and “date of birth” as characteristics. An object of type equipment, with a specific identification (Super Puma AS332) will have a characteristic of “mass”.

Group

This will display the characteristic group if the characteristics are attached to a group.

Characteristic Code

Select a characteristic from the list of available values from the drop down. The field is used to identify the characteristic

Characteristic Class

Select the characteristic type from the list of available values from the lookup. The field is used to specify the characteristic class, for example: date, unit of measure, numeric, colour. The selected value determines the behaviour of the fields. Select one of the available values from the lookup list.

Description

This field defines the characteristic in more detail. Enter a short description of the characteristic code.

UOM

If the characteristic class is specified as UOM, then only will this field be populated. This field contains the type of UOM value that will be stored: for example = meters, calendar or quantity.

UOM Code

This field defines the uniquely identifying code for the Unit of Measure (UOM). Select from the predefined drop down list of UOM codes: for example UOM=QTY = km, ea. or lit.

Currency Code

If the characteristic class is specified currency, then only will this field be populated. This field uniquely identifying UOM value that will be stored: for example = Rand, US Dollar or Euro.

Date

This field defines the value if the characteristic class is a date.

Indicator

This field will have a value only if the characteristic is of type Indicator.

Text

This field defines the text/detail of the specific object, but is not editable if characteristic class is date, numeric or currency.

Numeric

This field defines the value if the characteristic class is a numeric or currency.

Default Color

This field defines a colour that will indicate the colour of the specific object.
