Use this form/process to create and maintain the characteristic structures for an object type. Characteristics are generically defined per Object Type and based on this definition all the master characteristics will automatically be transferred on the bespoke Object.

Navigating the form

To create a new record press CTRL+N or the new button. The following tables provide descriptions for the controls in this form:

Indicators

View or add the indicators for the selected characteristic code.

Variables

View or add the characteristic class that was selected the variables for the selected class. (The variables that were selected in the base characteristics will display as fields under the variables tab). For completeness of information all the different variables will be displayed in documentation.

Field description

Group

Select a characteristic group from the pre-defined list of available groups from the drop down. The field is used to identify the characteristic groups.

Characteristic Code

Select a characteristic from the pre-defined list of available values from the drop down. The field is used to identify the characteristic.

Description

This is a short detailed description of the characteristic. Will automatically be added from pre-defined characteristics.

Indicators

Print indicator

If this field is selected the characteristic will be printed when the characteristics are part of a report.

Specific indicator

If this field is selected, this characteristic will be associated with each specific object of the selected type and thus be available for data capturing. If NOT selected, the characteristic is defined for an object only. If this has been set it will be defaulted to the specific, execution or incident.

Mandatory indicator

If selected, feedback is mandatory for this characteristic.

History indicator

If selected, history information will be kept of all characteristics changes for this object.

Variables

UOM

If the characteristic class is specified as UOM, then only will this field be populated. This field contains the type of UOM value that will be stored: for example - meters, calendar or quantity.

UOM Code

This field defines the uniquely identifying code for the Unit of Measure (UOM). Select from the predefined drop down list of UOM codes: for example UOM=QTY - km, ea. or lit.

Default numeric

This field defines the value if the characteristic class is a numeric or currency.

Lower limit

Enter the minimum value for the Characteristic.

Upper limit

Enter the maximum value for the Characteristic.

Currency Code

If the characteristic class is specified currency, then only will this field be populated. This field uniquely identifying UOM value that will be stored: for example - Rand, US Dollar or Euro.

Default Date

This field defines the value if the characteristic class is a date.

Default Indicator

This field will have a value only if the characteristic is of type Indicator.

Default Text

This field defines the text/detail of the specific object, but is not editable if characteristic class is date, numeric or currency.

Default colour

This field defines a colour that will indicate the colour of the specific object.

Lookup value

If characteristic class is “LOOKUP” then only can this field be populated.
