Characteristics are user definable elements used to add more detail to the generic and specific instances of any object managed with the 360°Strategic Asset Management Suite  Use this form to create and maintain all the different characteristics. Characteristics are defined for object types such as Vehicles, Mines, Plants, Attachments, etc. and then used to give more definition to a specific instance of the object type. This form is therefore used to allocate generic characteristics to an object type.

Note

(For example: Location is an object type, and GPS (Global Position System Coordinates) can be defined as a characteristic, or an object type is a “human” and you might want to capture the “height” and “date of birth” as characteristics.

To create a new record press CTRL+N or the new button. The following tables provide descriptions for the controls in this form:

Type of object

Select the type of object from drop down list to be used for filtering and tick the box to use option.

The default selection will be the types mostly used.

Characteristic type

Select the characteristic type to be used for filtering and tick the box to use option.

Field name

Field description

Object type

Select an object type from the list of available values from the lookup. This field defines the object type of the characteristic. A user definable code uniquely identifying the object type. The object type can be in any format but it is recommended that it is a short descriptive code for the object type.

Characteristic type

This field defines the type of characteristic. Select a value from the available list of options.

Characteristic code

Select a characteristic from the list of available values from the lookup. The field is used to identify the characteristic. The characteristic type, object type and code uniquely identify the characteristic.

Characteristic description

Give the characteristic a short but detailed description for more detail about characteristic code.

General

Characteristic class

Select the characteristic type from the list of available values from the lookup. The field is used to specify the characteristic class, for example: date, unit of measure, numeric, colour. The selected value determines the behaviour of the fields.

Record status

Shows the current status of the record. The status can be changed with the Change Status function.

Indicators

Print indicator

If selected this field will be printed when the characteristics are part of a report. On the operational data this characteristic will only be printed if it has been set.

Include on top

If selected this characteristic will be automatically defaulted into top level.

Specific indicator

If selected, this characteristic will be associated with each specific object of the selected type and thus be available for data capturing. If not selected, the characteristic is defined for an object only. If this has been set it will be defaulted to the specific execution or incident.

Mandatory indicator

If true, feedback is mandatory for this characteristic.

Variables

UOM

If the characteristic class is specified as UOM, then only will this field be populated. This field contains the type of UOM value that will be stored, for example: meters, calendar or quantity.

UOM code

A definable code uniquely identifying the UOM, for example UOM=QTY: km, ea. or lit.

Lower limit

Define the value of the lower limit of this characteristic.

Upper limit

Define the value of the upper limit of this characteristic.

Currency code

If the characteristic class is specified currency, then only will this field be populated. This field uniquely identifying UOM value that will be stored, for example: Rand, US Dollar or Euro.

Deviation

This field defines a measure of difference between a value and its reference value, such as temperature or pressure changes. Specify a value between 0 and 1.

Characteristic Lookup

Create lookup values for a specific characteristic.
